Gold Coast Weddings|Beach Wedding Makeup Essentials!

Each year, thousands of brides flock to the Gold Coast and tie the knot. Our beautiful, sandy beaches create the perfect setting for a chic, beach wedding. But with this natural spot brings many obstacles for makeup artists.

If you’re on the beach in summer, it can be very hot. On the contrary, in winter it can be quite nippy…so a wedding makeup artist on the Gold Coast needs to be equipped with tips and tricks to deal with any weather that nature throws your way.

Now I can’t reveal all of my tricks but I’ll share a few with you today:

1. Wear a primer!
It stuns me when I hear that some makeup artists don’t use primer on their brides. This product is applied before foundation. It improves the look of your foundation but most importantly, increases the longevity of the makeup. This is absolutely essential for a beach wedding as it helps the makeup to withstand different weather conditions.

2. Make sure your mascara is waterproof!
Always wear waterproof mascara, even if you’re not the crying type. A beach wedding exposes you to all of the natural elements. With the wind and sand, it is very likely your eyes will water at some point. So be prepared!

3. Opt for humidity-proof foundation!
A foundation which would be perfect for a church wedding can be an absolute disaster for a beach wedding. You’ll need to consult with your makeup artist to decide which type best suits your location. On the beach, there’ll be humidity in the air and the last thing you want is foundation running off your face.

If you’re having a beach wedding on the Gold Coast, you must follow these vital tips. It will ensure your makeup doesn’t spoil an otherwise perfect day!

Broadbeach Makeup Artit|Do I need to book a Wedding Makeup trial?

The simple answer to this is, yes. There are many factors that need to be taken into consideration to achieve the perfect wedding look. A trial gives you room to move and allows you to experiment with different looks. A wedding makeup trial also helps you to avoid these:

– Flash photography disasters.
Some foundations can look flawless in the flesh but as soon as you’re snapped by a photographer, it can be a completely different story. All foundations and powders reflect light differently. A trial will allow you to take some snaps yourself and make sure your flawless makeup translates to the photos.

– A very obvious makeup line.
When foundation isn’t blended into your décolletage, your face won’t match your body. If you jump right in on your big day without a trial, an inexperienced makeup artist may not have mastered their blending technique.

– Eye makeup which overshadows your eyes.
The colour palette used on your eyelids can make or break your look. Some colours look better on certain eyes than others. For example, an orange based shadow will make blue eyes pop but it won’t do the same for brown eyes. These are the sort of things your makeup artist can discuss with you at the trial.

Melanie Jane Makeup Artist will ensure your makeup looks just as beautiful in person as it does in your photos. Remember, your wedding day only happens once but the photos will last a lifetime!

Kingscliff Make Up Artist|Preparing your skin for your wedding day!

Brides spend hundreds of hours planning their wedding day. There are caterers to book, invitations to send, dresses to buy… and the list goes on! But one thing that should be at the top of every bride’s list but rarely is… is skin care!

If you don’t already have a regular skin care routigoldcoastweddingmakeupartistne, definitely implement one as soon as that engagement ring is hugging your finger. It’s best to start as early as possible, in order for your skin to flush itself out and to avoid having break outs near your big day.

Exfoliated and hydrated skin sets the perfect canvas for a makeup artist to work on. You can really tell the difference between a bride who looked after her skin and one who didn’t. Of course, we all have blemishes that nothing can be done about. But everyone’s skin can always be more hydrated. So drink up ladies!

– Water, water, water. Try to drink at least 3 litres per day. You will start noticing a big difference just after a few weeks.

– Exfoliate. Exfoliate again. This has two positive effects: it gets rid of dead skin as well as increases blood flow.

– Try to decrease your alcohol intake. Alcohol severely dehydrates the skin. Try to drink a glass of water between alcoholic beverages.

– Use hydrating face masks. Get your girlfriends together every few weeks and have a pamper session. You’ll all be pleased with the results.

With a fresh, hydrated face – foundation can go on more smoothly and it will look even more radiant! Your skin will be shining bright and look extremely healthy. Skin is definitely in! Especially during wedding season on the Gold Coast.

Importance of Choosing a Good Wedding Photographer

‘ A picture is worth a thousand words’

It is very important that you research the photographer you choose for your wedding before you make the booking. The photos you receive will be with you for the rest of your life and your wedding only happens once!

Here are a few tips to help you choose your wedding photographer!

1. How long has your photographer been in the business?

Are they just starting out or is this there only job that they have been doing for years. You don’t want your wedding photos to be used as training ground. The photographer you choose should know what they are doing! How to use lighting to your advantage, where to stand for all the important moments, how to make you feel comfortable and this all comes with years of experience.

2. Price

If the price sounds to good to be true then it usually is! Remember that your photographer will not only be coming out on the day to shoot your photos they have hours of work to do in the studio, hours of culling, editing and organising your wedding photos.

3. Personality

Regardless of how talented the photographer is, you need to have a good relationship with them. Before your day meet up with them to talk and see if you feel comfortable. Remember this person will be taking all the special memories of the most important day of your life. If you don’t feel comfortable with them look elsewhere until you find someone who does!

4. Photography Style

Don’t book a photographer until you have sussed out their style of photography. Know what style of photography you want! Some photographers take more natural relaxed shots, other traditional and formal shots. Ask to see examples of their work and read customer reviews!

With so many wedding photographers out there, it can be a hard task choosing who to go for so take time to sit down with your partner and research!

Surfers Paradise Makeup Artist|Wedding Makeup With a Bold Lip

I love this look! Nothing beats fresh, natural skin which is nicely complemented with a pop of colour on the lips. This is a popular look for today’s ‘modern bride’. Gone are the days of boring, old fashioned wedding makeup – now it’s all about radiant skin and splashes of colour.

Do you think you have the confidence to pull off a bold lip? The trick I have found is to purchase the lip colour you want to wear – and wear it! You might not feel comfortable with it at first, but all it takes is a bit of getting used to. Walk around the shops looking in every mirror you see or wear it around the house on your days off – this will give you the confidence to wear it on your big day.

There is nothing worse than someone wearing a bold lip and feeling self-conscious about it. If you’re not completely comfortable, people will know.

Here are some examples I love of Wedding Makeup with a bold lip:

I love how her skin is fresh and dewy with an orange based red lip. This is a classic look that will stay timeless for years. This colour combination would be perfect for brides with blue eyes.

This is my favourite bold lip colour by far, a deep purple lip and a natural matte skin. This will be great for brides with green eyes, your eyes will pop!

Airbrush Wedding Makeup Gold Coast

Have you ever wondered why celebrity brides always seem to look glamorous from start to end? Their makeup stays flawless – even after they’ve spent hours greeting people, exchanging vows with their loved one and shedding a tear or two. Well it’s not because they’re superhuman – but because their makeup has been airbrushed on.

Airbrush makeup has been around for years, the technique was first used in the film industry in 1925. But it’s only recently been embraced for personal use. The airbrush machine sprays out a fine mist of foundation, giving your skin an even porcelain finish. The formula used minimises skin imperfections while still looking natural.

If you choose airbrush makeup over traditional makeup on your wedding day, your foundation will last longer. It is also more resistant to water than traditional makeup, which is perfect for the Gold Coast’s hot climate – and your tears will no longer be a problem.

Your skin will feel lightweight and look flawlessly natural.

What more could you want on your big day?

Bridal Makeup Artist|How to choose a Wedding Makeup Artist?

I often get emails and phone calls from frantic brides who are unhappy with their makeup artist. Not only does it add unnecessary stress but it can waste hundreds of dollars.

When looking for a makeup artist, you should consider the following:

1. Is the Makeup Artist Qualified?

This is the first question that should spring to mind. There are many ‘Makeup Artists’ on the Gold Coast who have absolutely no qualifications. So please do your research! This will save you time, trouble and a lot of money.

2. How much experience has the Makeup Artist had?

You want someone who is well established in the industry and not someone who has just graduated. Makeup Artistry is a skill which is fine tuned over many years. I am still learning new tips and tricks everyday and I have been in this industry for 6 years!

3. How much are they charging?

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If the artist is charging a lot lower than the average rate, there will be a reason. Maybe they have just broken into the industry and are trying to build up there portfolio… You don’t want your wedding day to be used as training ground.

4. Portfolio

Ask to see the Makeup Artist’s portfolio. Have a look at recent weddings they’ve done and ask yourself: does this standard of makeup meet my expectations?

5. Book a trial

If you are happy with these things then the next step is booking a trial. Take pictures of makeup styles you like along with you, as well as any ideas you have. If you are not happy at the end of the trial, make sure you say something! You can work with the makeup artist to achieve your desired look.

6. Book the date!

If you are happy with the trial then book the date! Make sure you pay a deposit in order to secure the day.  Wedding season books up very fast!

Gold Coast Make up|Kate Middletons Bridal Look

A question I get asked all the time is ‘how can I achieve the Kate Middleton bridal look?’

Don’t we all wish we could naturally wake up looking like Kate Middleton? I certainly do!
But with a bit of time in the morning, you too can have the look that everyone wishes for!

For the perfect bridal glow, Kate chose to keep her natural skin colour. She wore a natural matte foundation and powder to match her skin colour. This was complemented with a soft rosy pink blush on the apples of her cheeks. Your skin will be radiating just like Kate’s was with this natural flushed look.

Her brows were groomed to her natural shape with an ash brown colour – this defined her face. I would suggest using a powder to achieve this look as it is softer than a pencil.

Kate accentuated her look by making her eyes the focus. A soft smokey blend of charcoal and taupe shadows were used to create a very soft diffused look. Add a black pencil and a coat of mascara and you’re done!

For the final touch, add a soft rosy pink lipgloss to the lips.

This look has some pretty universal colours so would suit nearly everybody!

Gold Coast Brides|10 Easy Bridal Makeup Tips

Here are my top 10 tips to get that glowing bridal look!

1. Plan your facial. Have it done two weeks before your big day. Facials bring everything to the surface so if you have any breakouts your skin will have time to heal before the wedding.

2. Touch up kit! I recommend you include the following items:

-Mini sewing kit (surprisingly these come in handy quite frequently!)
– Tampons
–  Lipstick/Lipgloss
– Eyeliner
– Powder

3. Groomed brows. Book in for an eyebrow wax or threading a week before the wedding! You don’t want to risk your brows being nipped or burnt by mistake.

4. Clean your teeth before the Makeup Artist arrives to ensure your foundation stays flawless.

5. Use Waterproof Mascara! Make sure the Makeup Artist uses waterproof mascara for yourself, the bridesmaids and the mother of the bride.

6. Stay hydrated! Make sure you are drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water everyday. This will help flush all of the nasty toxins out of your body. Your skin will be glowing!

7. Remove all your makeup the night before the wedding. Make sure you use a good moisturiser and apply lip balm or vaseline on your lips. You want plump, hydrated lips for your big day!

8. Give your lips a good exfoliation. I like using a toothbrush when I am brushing my teeth to get rid of the excess skin. Another good option is to buy “Lip Scrub’ by Lush. This stuff works wonders! You don’t want your lipstick applied to dry or cracked lips.

9. Waxing. Any body waxing should be done at least 3 days before the wedding. Some people are still quite swollen a couple of days post wax.

10. Stay Calm. It’s your wedding day, have fun! No matter what goes wrong, you are still marrying the man of your dreams!

Make up artist Gold Coast|Planning your Wedding Makeup

There’s one thing I’ll never quite understand and can be quite frustrating at times. I often receive wedding makeup enquiries and it’s a big part of my freelance makeup business. I just love doing weddings, I’d probably even do them for free if I didn’t have to worry about making a living!

My favourite part is seeing the bride see herself in the mirror for the first time, looking glamourous in her beautiful gown. An even better part, is when her mother and bridesmaids see her for the first time. This is when most brides have their ‘bridal moment’. There are tears, champagne and lots of photos! Plus some inevitable makeup touch ups!

The thing that frustrates me..isn’t the lovely brides that book in with me. It’s the bride-to-bes who make an appointment, hold it for months and then cancel when they find another makeup artist who is charging a lower price.

Recently I had a bride cancel as she had found a groupon deal. When I told her that I couldn’t match her groupon ($25 per person for airbrush makeup) she cancelled..3 weeks before the wedding!

Let me get this straight..after spending tens of thousands of dollars on a beautiful gown, lovely ceremony, a reception for the guests that includes a three course dinner plus photographers, videographer etc. The one place you should not be trying to save money on is your makeup!

The makeup is what ties everything together. Everyone looks at the bride as she walks down the aisle, guests take photos, photographers take photos, the videographer is filming you! Why would you put your trust in a makeup artist with little to no experience?

Groupon and similar Facebook pages that pop up every few months are always and I repeat ALWAYS beginner makeup artists. It’s the first thing most new beauty businesses do to try and establish a client base.

Perhaps you could trust them with your makeup for a party or similar event. For your wedding though? Let me help put this in perspective with an analogy. Would you trust a student doctor with your surgery or would you feel better with someone who has experience? Would you trust an apprentice tiler with your home tiling project or would you want to go with someone who can provide you with photos of their work?

Experience is essential in the makeup industry! After attending the most highly regarded beauty college in Australia for 12 months and furthering my skills at a professional makeup and special effects academy, I have then gone on to work with some of the best makeup artists in Australia with MAC cosmetics. As a job requirement, MAC makeup artists are always furthering their study. Every few months we attend high-fashion training courses and are always scrapbooking photos of recent makeup trends in our spare time!

Makeup is what I do, it’s my passion. WIth 6  years experience, I can’t understand why brides choose to save money on makeup over other things. Try to make a cut back somewhere else if necessary, bad makeup can and will ruin your big day.

Imagine spending all of that money on a wedding and not feeling like a princess on your big day…
Imagine staring back at yourself in the mirror and feeling that lump in your throat as you fight back tears…knowing that this wasn’t how you pictured yourself looking.

I’ve had frantic calls from bridesmaids early in the morning, desperately trying to find someone to come and fix their friend’s makeup before the ceremony. My advice to all future brides is to do it properly from the beginning. Do your research and find somebody with experience! Find a makeup artist that can provide you with photos and testimonials of their work.

After all the stress and planning for the big day, you deserve to feel the most beautiful that you’ve ever felt in your life. You’re worth the cost of a professional makeup artist. Wouldn’t you agree?
