Bridal Makeup Artist|How to choose a Wedding Makeup Artist?

I often get emails and phone calls from frantic brides who are unhappy with their makeup artist. Not only does it add unnecessary stress but it can waste hundreds of dollars.

When looking for a makeup artist, you should consider the following:

1. Is the Makeup Artist Qualified?

This is the first question that should spring to mind. There are many ‘Makeup Artists’ on the Gold Coast who have absolutely no qualifications. So please do your research! This will save you time, trouble and a lot of money.

2. How much experience has the Makeup Artist had?

You want someone who is well established in the industry and not someone who has just graduated. Makeup Artistry is a skill which is fine tuned over many years. I am still learning new tips and tricks everyday and I have been in this industry for 6 years!

3. How much are they charging?

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If the artist is charging a lot lower than the average rate, there will be a reason. Maybe they have just broken into the industry and are trying to build up there portfolio… You don’t want your wedding day to be used as training ground.

4. Portfolio

Ask to see the Makeup Artist’s portfolio. Have a look at recent weddings they’ve done and ask yourself: does this standard of makeup meet my expectations?

5. Book a trial

If you are happy with these things then the next step is booking a trial. Take pictures of makeup styles you like along with you, as well as any ideas you have. If you are not happy at the end of the trial, make sure you say something! You can work with the makeup artist to achieve your desired look.

6. Book the date!

If you are happy with the trial then book the date! Make sure you pay a deposit in order to secure the day.  Wedding season books up very fast!
